Over the last 6 years, Goodies on Old Kent road has become a prominent watering hole for Nigerians resident in and visiting London, but it was not until the man with the bulky frame, Kobino, started running a Nite club out of the Basement that it really took off!
In the last two years, the place went from just an eatery and shakis joint to a full blown Nite club. Come Fridays and Saturdays, Goodies was packed by mostly Nigerians resident in London and celebrities from Nigeria. Even though the environment was somewhat squalid people thronged the place because of the nice jams provided by shai-shai Shilong. Things were looking good for Kobino; well so we thaught.
The first sign of trouble was when the popular DJ Shai-Shai disappeared, it turned out that even though Kobino was raking in money, he refused to pay Shai-Shai. Not one to be messed about ,Shai-Shai packed up his gear and left . Kobino got another DJ, but he was soon in another spot of trouble, this time with the Landlord. Just like he was doing to Shai-Shai, Kobino was defaulting on payments to the Landlord. It was always one story or the other, meanwhile the club was always packed to the brim so how could he not pay? The Landlord finally lost patience and told Kobino to leave.
We hear Kobino is scouting for a new location, but even if he gets one, will he learn and begin to pay when expected? Don’t hold your breathe o
